Description
Crispy and sweet cinnamon banana chips made effortlessly in the air fryer. These thinly sliced bananas are lightly coated with a honey and cinnamon mixture, air fried to golden perfection, making a delicious and healthy snack or dessert option.
Ingredients
Scale
Banana Chips
- 2 ripe bananas (firm, not too ripe)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Cinnamon Honey Coating
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prep the Bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them thinly, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Using a mandoline slicer helps ensure the slices are even for uniform cooking.
- Prevent Browning: Place the banana slices in a large bowl and drizzle with lemon juice, which prevents them from browning while you prepare the coating.
- Make the Cinnamon Honey Coating: In a small bowl, mix the honey or maple syrup with ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt if you like. Stir until well combined.
- Coat the Banana Slices: Drizzle the cinnamon honey mixture over the banana slices and gently toss everything to ensure each slice is evenly coated.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes to prepare for air frying.
- Arrange the Banana Slices: Place the banana slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook them in batches for best results.
- Air Fry the Chips: Air fry the banana slices for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Watch closely near the end to avoid burning as they can crisp quickly.
- Cool the Chips: Remove the banana chips from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes. They will crisp further as they cool down.
- Serve or Store: Serve the banana chips immediately for best crunch, or store them in an airtight container for 2-3 days to enjoy later.
Notes
- Use firm bananas rather than overly ripe ones to ensure the chips hold their shape and crisp up well.
- If you don’t have honey, pure maple syrup is an excellent alternative.
- Slice the bananas evenly to ensure they cook uniformly in the air fryer.
- Keep a close eye on the chips during air frying as they can burn quickly once they start crisping.
- For extra crispiness, you may extend air frying by a minute or two but watch carefully to prevent burning.
