Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 10 frozen puff pastry squares, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Filling and Toppings
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Granulated garlic, to taste
- 4-6 jalapeños, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Colby Jack cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set them aside to prepare for baking the danishes.
- Shape Pastry: Take each thawed puff pastry square and fold it corner to corner. Then cut two slits on either side to shape the pastry into a danish “kite” shape. Place each formed pastry onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Assemble Danishes: Brush the top of each pastry with the beaten egg wash to help it brown beautifully. Spread the softened cream cheese evenly in the center of each pastry. Season with salt, pepper, and granulated garlic according to your taste. Next, layer with thinly sliced jalapeños, sprinkle the shredded Colby Jack cheese and then the shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese on top. Finish by sprinkling the panko bread crumbs evenly over the cheese.
- Bake: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for about 18-22 minutes until the danishes are golden brown, flaky, and the cheese has melted nicely. Once done, remove from oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving to enjoy the perfect blend of spicy and savory flavors.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of jalapeños depending on your preferred spice level.
- Puff pastry should be well thawed but kept cold for easy handling and best puffiness.
- Egg wash helps the pastry develop a beautifully glossy and golden finish.
- For extra crunch, use fresh panko breadcrumbs rather than stale ones.
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.
- These danishes can be frozen after assembly but before baking; bake from frozen adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
