Scale
Vegetables
- 1 ½ pounds turnips
Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional: chopped herbs like parsley or oregano
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for roasting the turnips.
- Prepare the turnips: Using a sharp knife, slice off the tops and bases of the turnips, then chop them into uniform ½-inch pieces for even cooking.
- Season the turnips: Place the diced turnips on a parchment or foil-lined baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle evenly with sea salt, paprika, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss well to ensure all pieces are coated.
- Arrange for roasting: Spread the seasoned turnips out on the baking sheet in a single layer, making sure pieces are not crowded to allow proper caramelization.
- Roast: Place in the preheated oven and roast for 30 minutes until the turnips are tender and slightly golden brown around the edges.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, optionally garnished with freshly chopped herbs such as parsley or oregano for added flavor and freshness.
Notes
- Cut turnips into even pieces to ensure uniform cooking.
- Use fresh herbs to enhance the flavor if desired.
- For a softer texture, you can cover the pan with foil for the first 15 minutes and then uncover to brown.
- Turnips can be swapped with rutabaga or other root vegetables for variety.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
