Description

Magic Cookie Bars are a classic American dessert featuring a rich, buttery graham cracker crust layered with sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts. These bars bake to a delightful golden brown and cool into a perfect treat that’s both chewy and crunchy.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

Layers

  • 1 (14 oz) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (325°F if using a glass baking dish) to prepare for baking the bars.
  2. Prepare Crust: Pour the melted butter into a 13×9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter and press down lightly to form a firm crust base.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust layer to bind the ingredients.
  4. Layer Toppings: Evenly layer the semi-sweet chocolate chips, followed by butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, and finally the chopped walnuts or pecans. Press down gently with a fork or spatula to compact the layers.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 24 bars for clean slices and best texture.

Notes

  • Swap butterscotch chips for peanut butter chips or white chocolate chips for variation.
  • To make a nut-free version, simply omit the nuts or replace with sunflower seeds.
