Description

This homemade Lemon Pepper Seasoning is a zesty, flavorful blend perfect for elevating your dishes with a fresh citrusy kick and a spicy pepper punch. Made with dried lemon peels, freshly ground black pepper, and savory spices, this seasoning is a versatile addition to chicken, fish, vegetables, and more.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 10 lemons
  • 2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon granulated onions
  • 2 teaspoons flaky sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for drying the lemon peels evenly.
  2. Prepare Lemon Peels: Using a vegetable peeler, carefully remove thin strips of lemon peel, avoiding the white pith to only get the bright yellow zest.
  3. Arrange Peels: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay the lemon peels on it in a single layer without overlapping or touching.
  4. Bake Peels: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the lemon peels begin to curl at the edges, indicating they are dried.
  5. Cool and Blend: Remove the peels from the oven and let them cool for 2 to 3 minutes. Then blitz them in a food processor or blender for 30 seconds to 1 minute to create finely dried lemon zest.
  6. Mix Seasoning: In a bowl, combine the dried lemon zest with freshly ground black pepper, granulated onions, flaky sea salt, and granulated garlic. Stir well to blend evenly.
  7. Store or Use: Use the seasoning immediately or store it in a sealed container in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure the lemon peels are thin and free of pith for the best flavor and avoid bitterness.
  • Spread peels out evenly to allow proper drying and prevent steaming.
  • If you don’t have a food processor or blender, you can finely chop the dried lemon peels, but the texture will be coarser.
  • Keep the seasoning in an airtight container to preserve its potency and flavor.
  • This seasoning pairs wonderfully with chicken, fish, vegetables, and salads.
