Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 pound smoked sausage, sliced into coins
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Honey Garlic Sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar (or lemon juice), and red pepper flakes. Set aside to let flavors meld.
- Cook the sausage: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and slightly crispy, about 4–5 minutes. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Steam the broccoli: In the same skillet, add broccoli florets and a splash of water. Cover the skillet and steam for 2–3 minutes until broccoli is slightly tender. Remove the lid and cook uncovered for an additional 2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture and achieve a bright green, slightly crisp texture. Transfer broccoli to the plate with sausage.
- Cook the shrimp: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Arrange shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1–2 minutes per side until they turn pink and are just cooked through.
- Combine and finish: Return cooked sausage and broccoli to the skillet with the shrimp. Pour in the prepared honey garlic sauce and toss everything together to coat evenly. Cook for 1–2 minutes more, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve: Serve the honey garlic shrimp, sausage, and broccoli hot on its own or over cooked rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- You can substitute smoked sausage with turkey sausage or a plant-based sausage alternative for a different protein option.
- Add vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas to increase the color and crunch of the dish.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level or omit for a milder flavor.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or your favorite noodles to make it more filling.
- For a gluten-free option, ensure the soy sauce used is gluten-free tamari or coconut aminos.
