Description

This homemade guacamole recipe is a fresh, vibrant, and easy-to-make dip featuring ripe avocados, tangy lime juice, spicy jalapeño, crisp onions, and fresh cilantro. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish, it comes together in just 10 minutes and serves 9 people with a creamy texture and bold flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Produce

  • 4 large avocados
  • ½ small red onion (about â…“ cup)
  • 1 jalapeño pepper
  • 2-3 Roma tomatoes
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • 4 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)

Spices

  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Soak Onions: Slice the red onion into thick slices and add them to a large bowl of cold water. Allow the onions to soak while you prepare the other ingredients, which helps mellow their sharpness.
  2. Mash Avocados: Peel and pit the avocados, then add them to a large mixing bowl. Using a fork or pastry cutter, mash the avocados to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
  3. Prepare Vegetables: Dice the jalapeño pepper after removing its inner membranes and seeds to control the heat level. Also dice the Roma tomatoes into small pieces.
  4. Drain and Dice Onion: Drain the soaked onion slices thoroughly and dice them finely. Add the diced onions, jalapeño, diced tomatoes, minced garlic, fresh lime juice, sea salt, and ground black pepper to the mashed avocado. Stir everything together to combine evenly.
  5. Add Cilantro and Serve: Gently fold in the chopped fresh cilantro to retain its flavor and freshness. Serve the guacamole immediately for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For less heat, remove all seeds from the jalapeño or use less pepper.
  • To keep guacamole green longer, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface or sprinkle with extra lime juice.
  • Adjust salt and lime juice to taste, as avocado ripeness can affect flavor balance.
  • This guacamole is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, or alongside grilled meats for a flavorful addition.
