Description

This German Chocolate Fudge recipe combines rich layers of smooth semi-sweet and milk chocolate fudge topped with a luscious coconut pecan topping for a decadent treat. The multi-layered dessert is easy to prepare using the microwave and stovetop, perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings with a delightful texture and flavor contrast.

Ingredients

Scale

Fudge Layer

  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butter

Chocolate Layer

  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Coconut Pecan Topping

  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 large egg yolk, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare Fudge Layer: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the mixture is smooth and melted. Pour the fudge mixture into a parchment-lined 8×8-inch pan, spreading it evenly. Place it in the refrigerator to set while preparing the next layer.
  2. Prepare Chocolate Layer: In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine milk chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Pour this layer over the set fudge layer in the pan, spreading evenly. Return to the refrigerator to chill.
  3. Make Coconut Pecan Topping: In a medium saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, butter, and beaten egg yolk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans. Allow the topping to cool for a few minutes.
  4. Assemble and Chill: Spread the coconut pecan topping evenly over the set chocolate layer in the pan. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until fully set.
  5. Serve: Once firm, lift the fudge out of the pan using the parchment paper and cut into 16 squares. Enjoy your rich and delicious German Chocolate Fudge!

Notes

  • Use parchment paper to line the pan for easy removal and cleaner cuts.
  • Microwaving in intervals helps prevent scorching the chocolate.
  • Make sure to stir constantly when cooking the topping to avoid scrambling the egg yolk.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • This fudge is perfect for holiday gifts or special occasions.
