Description

A comforting and hearty dish that combines the flavors of sloppy joe with cheesy garlic bread in a simple bake, perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the Bake:

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough or 1 loaf French bread, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until browned. Add garlic, then stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Prepare the bread: Cut biscuit dough in half or slice French bread. Combine melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley in a bowl.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture into the baking dish. Top with cheese, then biscuit halves or bread slices. Brush with garlic butter.
  5. Bake: Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra cheesiness, add mozzarella or pepper jack.
  • Garlic Texas toast can be a rich alternative.
  • Pair with a green salad or pickles for balance.
