Description

These French Dip Biscuits are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich. Flaky refrigerated biscuits are layered with creamy horseradish sauce, provolone cheese, and thinly sliced roast beef, then baked to golden perfection. Served warm with a homemade Au Jus gravy for dipping, they make a perfect appetizer or easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Biscuits and Filling

  • 1 (16.3-oz) can refrigerated biscuits (8-count)
  • 1 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 2 Tbsp creamy horseradish sauce (or to taste)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese

Au Jus

  • 1 (1-oz) packet Au Jus Gravy mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the biscuits.
  2. Prepare the Biscuits: Carefully separate each refrigerated biscuit into two layers. Spread a thin layer of creamy horseradish sauce on each layer for added flavor.
  3. Assemble the Sandwiches: On the bottom half of each biscuit, place a slice of provolone cheese followed by a generous portion of the thinly sliced roast beef. Top with the remaining biscuit layer and pinch the edges together firmly to seal the sandwich completely, preventing any filling from leaking out during baking.
  4. Bake the Biscuits: Arrange the assembled biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the biscuits turn golden brown and the cheese melts beautifully inside.
  5. Prepare the Au Jus: While the biscuits are baking, prepare the Au Jus gravy by following the instructions on the packet. This will be used as a savory dipping sauce to complement the rich flavors of the sandwiches.
  6. Serve: Once baked, serve the French Dip Biscuits warm alongside the prepared Au Jus for dipping. Enjoy them hot for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of horseradish sauce according to your taste preference for more or less heat.
  • Use thinly sliced roast beef for easier assembly and better texture.
  • For a crispier biscuit, bake a few extra minutes but keep an eye to avoid burning.
  • These sandwiches are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes if needed.
  • If you prefer, substitute the Au Jus gravy mix with homemade beef broth and a splash of Worcestershire sauce for a fresher dip.
