Description

Easy Shrimp Tacos are a quick and flavorful meal perfect for any night of the week. Juicy shrimp seasoned with a blend of spices and cooked on the stovetop are served in warm tortillas and topped with your favorite fresh toppings like sour cream, salsa, and cilantro for a delicious and satisfying taco experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Tortillas

  • 8-10 medium tortillas (flour or corn)

Toppings (optional)

  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Iceberg lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: If using frozen shrimp, thaw them under cool running water until completely defrosted. Peel and devein the shrimp, removing the tails for easier eating.
  2. Prepare toppings: While the shrimp thaw, prepare your taco toppings such as sour cream, salsa, chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, cilantro, and lime wedges so they are ready to assemble the tacos.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Add the shrimp along with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook the shrimp for approximately 5-6 minutes, stirring or flipping occasionally, until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  4. Assemble the tacos: Warm the tortillas if desired. Spoon the cooked shrimp onto each tortilla and add your preferred toppings. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • If possible, use fresh shrimp for the best texture and flavor, though frozen works fine too.
  • Control the spice level by adjusting the amount of chili powder used.
  • To warm tortillas, briefly heat them on a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until pliable.
  • For a healthier option, use corn tortillas instead of flour.
  • Feel free to customize with additional toppings like avocado or shredded cheese.
