Ingredients
Scale
Bread Bowl:
- 1 large round bread loaf (sourdough or Italian)
Spaghetti:
- 8 ounces spaghetti (cooked al dente)
Meat Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 cup marinara or pasta sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese:
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish:
- Chopped fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the top off the bread loaf and hollow out the center to create a bowl, leaving about 1 inch of bread around the edges. Set aside the top and save the removed bread for breadcrumbs or dipping.
- Cook meat sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, mix cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce. Stir in ricotta if using. Spoon the mixture into the bread bowl, topping with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Bake: Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it rest, garnish with herbs, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
- You can swap the beef for mushrooms or plant-based meat for a vegetarian option.
- Great for parties or cozy weeknights.
- Serve with a side salad or garlic bread (if you’re feeling indulgent!).
