Description

A simple and comforting Dump and Bake Meatball Casserole that combines frozen meatballs, uncooked pasta, and marinara sauce into one easy dish baked to perfection with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatball Casserole

  • 1 lb frozen meatballs (about 20 meatballs)
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 cup uncooked pasta (rotini, penne, or ziti)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Cheese Topping

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole evenly.
  2. Assemble the Casserole: In a large 9×13 inch baking dish, evenly spread the uncooked pasta on the bottom. Place the frozen meatballs evenly atop the pasta layer.
  3. Add Sauce and Water: Pour the entire jar of marinara sauce over the meatballs and pasta, then add 1/2 cup of water. Stir gently to combine the sauce and water evenly throughout.
  4. Season: Sprinkle dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper evenly over the casserole to enhance the flavor.
  5. Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 35 minutes until the pasta is tender and meatballs are heated through.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake Uncovered: Return the casserole to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  8. Serve: Take the casserole out of the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious, hearty meatball casserole!

Notes

  • Using frozen meatballs makes this dish quick and convenient.
  • Any short pasta like rotini, penne, or ziti works well in this casserole.
  • Make sure to cover the dish to fully cook the pasta and meatballs through steaming.
  • Feel free to add extra vegetables such as bell peppers or mushrooms for more nutrition.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat nicely.
