Ingredients
Scale
Mushrooms
- 1 pound whole button or cremini mushrooms (cleaned and trimmed)
Breading
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For Frying and Garnish
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Breading Station: Set up three shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl. In the second bowl, beat the eggs and milk together. In the third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. This setup allows for easy and even coating of mushrooms.
- Bread the Mushrooms: Dip each cleaned and trimmed mushroom first into the flour, shaking off excess. Then dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, roll the mushroom in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks well.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat it over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. Using a thermometer ensures the oil is at the perfect frying temperature.
- Fry the Mushrooms: Carefully place the breaded mushrooms into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until they turn golden brown and crispy all over. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally, sprinkle the fried mushrooms with chopped parsley for freshness and color. Serve immediately while hot with your choice of dipping sauces such as ranch, garlic aioli, or marinara.
Notes
- For a healthier alternative, bake breaded mushrooms at 400°F for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Alternatively, air fry at 375°F for 12–15 minutes for a crispy texture with less oil.
- Ensure mushrooms are dry before breading to help the coating adhere properly.
