Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp Marinade
- 1 lb (450g) raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Juice of 2 limes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Taco Assembly
- 8 small flour or corn tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Extra chopped cilantro and lime wedges for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the Shrimp: In a mixing bowl, combine lime juice, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp and toss well to coat. Let the shrimp marinate for 10 to 15 minutes to absorb all the flavors.
- Cook the Shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the marinated shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the heat and set aside.
- Warm the Tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat or briefly over a gas flame until they become pliable and warm. Keep them wrapped in a clean towel to stay soft.
- Assemble the Tacos: Place a layer of shredded lettuce or cabbage on each tortilla. Top with the cooked shrimp, diced tomatoes, sliced avocado, and a spoonful of sour cream or Greek yogurt. Garnish with extra chopped cilantro for a fresh finish.
- Serve: Serve the tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for an additional squeeze of citrus flavor as desired.
Notes
- You can substitute shrimp with other seafood like scallops or fish if preferred.
- For a spicier twist, add some finely chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the marinade.
- Use either flour or corn tortillas based on personal preference or dietary needs.
- To keep tacos warm for serving later, wrap them in foil and place in a low oven (around 200°F/95°C).
- Greek yogurt is a healthier alternative to sour cream and adds a nice tangy creaminess.
- Make sure not to overcook the shrimp, as they can become tough quickly.
