Description

These Chicken Stuffed Crescent Rolls are a delightful appetizer or snack featuring tender shredded chicken blended with creamy cheeses and seasonings, all wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for parties, game days, or a comforting bite anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken, finely chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 2 tbsp green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Dough and Toppings

  • 2 cans crescent roll dough (8 oz each, 16 triangles total)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash, optional)
  • 1 tbsp sesame or poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, stir the softened cream cheese until smooth. Mix in the shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper until all ingredients are well combined and creamy.
  3. Prepare Crescent Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 16 individual triangles. Place the triangles on the prepared baking sheet and gently flatten the wide ends to create a base for the filling.
  4. Fill and Roll: Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the chicken mixture onto the wide end of each triangle. Roll each triangle from the wide end to the point, carefully tucking the sides in to enclose the filling. Pinch the seams to seal, then arrange the rolls tip side down on the baking sheet. Optionally, brush each roll with the beaten egg to promote browning and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds for extra texture and flavor.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed, deep golden brown, and the filling is heated through.
  6. Rest and Garnish: Remove the rolls from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes to set. Scatter additional sliced green onions on top if desired for a fresh garnish.
  7. Serve: Serve the crescent rolls warm alongside a salad, vegetables, or your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños to the filling.
  • Substitute cheddar cheese with mozzarella or pepper jack for different flavor profiles.
  • Egg wash is optional but helps give the roll a beautiful golden color and shine.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking chilled rolls.
  • Freezing the assembled, unbaked rolls is possible; thaw overnight in the fridge before baking as described.
