Description

Brazilian Lemonade is a refreshing, frothy drink made from whole fresh lemons, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, and cold water, blended to a creamy, tangy-sweet perfection. Served chilled with ice, this traditional Brazilian beverage is perfect for hot days or as a unique citrus treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized lemons (preferably fresh and organic)
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1-2 cups ice cubes (or more, depending on preference)

Garnish (optional)

  • Lime wedges or lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lemons: Wash the lemons thoroughly. Cut off the ends of each lemon, then cut them into 8 wedges, using the entire lemon including the peel.
  2. Blend the Ingredients: Place the lemon wedges, cold water, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar into a blender.
  3. Blend the Mixture: Blend on high speed for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the lemons are completely broken down and the mixture is frothy.
  4. Strain (Optional): Strain the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove pulp and seeds for a smoother texture, or skip this step if you prefer a more rustic drink.
  5. Add Ice and Blend Again: Add the ice cubes to the blender and blend until the ice is crushed and the drink is cold and frothy.
  6. Serve: Pour the Brazilian lemonade into glasses, garnish with lime wedges or lemon slices if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using whole lemons, including the peel, gives the drink its characteristic bitterness and depth, but you can adjust the amount depending on your taste preference.
  • Straining is optional; the drink can be enjoyed with pulp or smoother based on your texture preference.
  • Adjust the sugar quantity to taste, especially if your lemons are particularly bitter.
  • Serve immediately after blending to enjoy the frothy texture and refreshing chill.
  • For a dairy-free version, try substituting sweetened condensed milk with a coconut condensed milk alternative.
