Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 (10-inch) pre-made pizza crust
- 1 can (10 biscuits) refrigerated flaky biscuits
Sausage Gravy
- 1 pound ground sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Toppings
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional: chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the breakfast pizza.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until it is fully browned and cooked through. Be sure to break the sausage apart as it cooks for even browning. Drain any excess grease from the skillet to avoid a greasy gravy.
- Prepare the Sausage Gravy: Using the cooked sausage fat in the skillet, sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and stir constantly to make a roux. Cook the roux for a minute or two until it is lightly golden. Gradually whisk in the milk to the skillet to create a smooth gravy. Add salt and black pepper, stir, and continue to cook over medium heat until the gravy thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Assemble the Pizza: Place the pre-made pizza crust on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Arrange the 10 refrigerated biscuits evenly over the crust. Pour the hot sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits and crust, covering the surface well.
- Add Cheese and Bake: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the gravy-covered biscuits. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the biscuits are fully cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired for added flavor and color. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- You can use homemade biscuit dough instead of canned biscuits for a fresher taste.
- Adjust the seasoning of the gravy with more or less salt and pepper according to your preferences.
- For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the sausage gravy.
- If you prefer a lower-fat option, use lean ground turkey sausage and low-fat milk.
- This recipe can be doubled for a larger crowd.
