Description

Deliciously crispy and sweet Banana Fritters made from ripe bananas, lightly spiced with cinnamon, and fried to golden perfection. These Caribbean-inspired fritters are a perfect snack or dessert, served warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of honey.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For Serving

  • Powdered sugar or honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Banana Mash: In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until they become smooth and free of large lumps, creating the base for the batter.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and optional cinnamon to ensure even distribution of leavening and spices.
  3. Combine Batter: Add the dry ingredients to the mashed bananas, then stir in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until a thick, cohesive batter forms without dry streaks.
  4. Heat Oil: Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat it over medium heat to around 350°F (175°C), suitable for frying the fritters evenly.
  5. Fry the Fritters: Using a spoon, carefully drop small portions of batter into the hot oil, frying 4–5 fritters at a time. Cook each side for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown and crisp, turning carefully to fry evenly.
  6. Drain Excess Oil: Remove the cooked fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain off excess oil and maintain crispness.
  7. Serve: Dust the warm fritters with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey before serving for added sweetness and presentation.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix a pinch of nutmeg into the batter or stir in shredded coconut for a tropical twist.
  • These fritters are best served warm to enjoy their crisp exterior and soft inside.
  • You can also serve them as a dessert topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat.
